The Powerhouse Cafe emerged from an historic building that once helped to deliver electricity to supply a local hospital. We offer a menu focused on fresh local food.
Sit in the sun and enjoy views of the mountain peaks beyond the magnificent trees of the neighbouring Queen Mary Reserve or cosy up on a cold day and soak up the history of our beautiful building.
Power up for your walk through the beautiful Hanmer Springs Heritage Forest, before tackling one of the many mountain bike tracks or, after a regenerating soak in the hot pools - just a stone's throw away - pop in for a relaxing lunch. A menu crafted by our team of talented chefs and designed to tantalise your tastebuds, we focus on freshly made food using seasonal and local produce and offer an extensive menu for breakfast, brunch and lunch.
We cater to a wide range of dietary requirements without compromising on quality or flavour. Gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and allergy friendly.
We also offer a children's menu to keep our younger guests happy!
Just Right
Our Highland Fling takes a bowl of porridge and turns it into something a little bit special. Rolled Oats simmered in dairy or coconut milk served with caramelised rhubarb, topped with Banana, sugar - blow-torched to crunchy perfection and a wee lick o' Drambuie. With cream served on the side this is a breakfast of pure decadence.
Classic with a twist
You can't go far wrong with the classic Eggs Benedict. Our version sees two perfectly poached eggs sitting atop honey-cured bacon on crispy grilled potato herb hashbrowns, topped with our own hollandaise sauce. Or opt for the Eggs Montreal and swap the bacon for cold-smoked salmon.
Sweet and Savoury
French Toast with a Powerhouse twist - two crumpets coated in French toast batter and grilled. Topped with fresh banana and your choice of honey-cured bacon or berry and black cherry compote and served with maple syrup and fresh fruit. With gluten free, dairy free and vegan options.

From scones, muffins and cinnamon scrolls to slices, cookies and friands - pop into the cafe to check out today's cabinet collection. We bake everything at the Cafe and always have gluten free, dairy free and vegan options available.

Mojo Coffee - The Injection
Founded as a boutique roastery café in Wellington by Steve and Julie Gianoutsos in 2003, Mojo Coffee is now one of New Zealand’s most experienced independent coffee roasters.
The Powerhouse Cafe is proud to serve The Injection - an organic and fair trade blend with notes of dark chocolate, cloves and nutmeg with a big body and dark cocoa finish.

We offer a range of options for every occasion.
